Off the grid - way off

So three years ago when we were here we were hiking on a trail which runs above the town and passes an abandoned mine - which was inhabited by a jolly guy wearing a insulated refrigerator suit and carrying a mostly empty half gallon of vodka.  He was living in the mine - which was 54 degrees year round he informed us - which was why he had the overalls, and he was happy.

He seems to still be there.

As always clicking on a photo renders it full sized.

This is its locale - (site is lower left in picture below) behind it brewery gulch and pretty much nothing for a long, long ways.

It's a bit of a hike to town - the liquor store is a bit farther, but with no rent to pay...

other views from the trail

Back when there were 25,000 miners there were lots of brothels
and the headboards show up along the trail as it approaces what whas the red light district.

Some scenes returning to the house....
just before the next rains came.
Should be clear in a day or two....

And finally our resident thrasher posed for some more shots
