Changing the focus

if only for a while...

It is easy (impossible not) to get lost in the immense grand vistas, the stunning scenes and to miss 

the amazing things at our feet.

 I don't know what this is.  Just sitting there beside the trail,  The rocks seem to be basalt which is not uncommon, but not prevalent.  

May look into it, but maybe not, having a mystery is kinda nice too.

 

More or less where it was found.   There is an old volcano not too far away...

 I suspect each layer is hundreds of thousands of years, but then again...one volcanic event

This layer definitely took a while.

 Moss and lichen together.  A quote from a bit of googling " Not just a plant, lichens are actually a single entity created from a joining of algae and fungus"   

Just when you thought that maybe you were a little bit special..
